Warrington, Pa. June 2020 – With the turn of the new year, Penn Valley Pump (PVP) heads into its fourth decade of developing and manufacturing the world’s only true double disc pump technology. Driven by the principles that have made this technology the de facto in solids handling pumping applications, PVP celebrates its 40th anniversary by continuing to produce quality pumps for the harshest wastewater and industrial environments.

In 1979, improving upon the original 1969 design by mechanical design engineer Cecil Hughes (Cotterell, England), PVP founder George Burrage added the flexible “trunnion” sealing design to the double disc pump. Burrage then went on to start Penn Valley Pump in 1980.

Preston Campbell, Vice President of PVP, noted, “By embodying Cecil’s desire to make pump technology longer lasting and George’s notion of increasing value to the user, PVP has grown the use and applications of its pumps over these past four decades.  With the innovations we’ve added to the double disc pump since its inception, and the patented Maintain in Place design developed by current owner, Leslie Burrage, PVP continues to give users the best pump technology for their industrial water and wastewater applications.”

Manufactured exclusively in the USA, PVP’s Double Disc Pump easily handles solids up to 2” including thickened, digested and primary biosolids as well as dewatering feed, scum, septage and lime slurry.

Campbell, continued, “We have a steadfast commitment to both our customers and our community.  To that end, we continue to produce our pumps in a high-quality manufacturing facility co-located with our headquarters in Bucks County, PA, where we have been since our start in 1980.”

The pump’s simple, durable design provides an extremely low wear rate that minimizes maintenance, while offering the industry’s most reliable method of feeding and transferring tough-to-handle sludges and slurries. The company earned this distinction through its extensive experience and expertise in both the hydraulic and the mechanical aspects of pumping installations as well as because of PVP’s knowledge and understanding of where to properly install pumping equipment.

Over the years, PVP’s continued commitment to quality has garnered the company significant accolades, having won a prestigious WEF Innovative Technology Award as well as been a pivotal part in successfully mitigating water treatment issues at thousands of customer installations.
